Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney Michael Guest announced today that John T. Gore of Rankin County was found guilty by a jury last week of gratification of lust involving a 21-month-old child. Gore was sentenced today to 15 years in prison with the last 2 years suspended. Following his release from custody he will be placed on 5 years supervised probation. He will be required to serve every single day of his thirteen year sentence imposed by the court. In addition, he will be required to register as sexual offender upon his release.

Guest stated, “John Gore’s conviction and sentence will again show our community’s strong commitment to removing sexual deviants from our streets. The sexual assault of a 21-month-old child is perhaps one of the worst crimes that we have prosecuted.”

In May 2007, the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department was called by the victim’s mother because the child was complaining of pain. The mother believed that the child had been sexually abused by the defendant earlier that day. The child was taken to Saint Dominic Hospital for an evaluation and medical personnel determined that the injuries suffered by the child were the results of sexual abuse.
