Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney Michael Guest announced today that Willie James Washington Jr. pled guilty to the manslaughter of Teresa J. Beal Page. He will receive twenty years in prison for manslaughter, ten years for auto theft and three years for arson.
Law enforcement officials found Page’s abandoned burned vehicle on Guilde Road off of Highway 80 near Pelahatchie. During the investigation, officials discovered that the owner of the vehicle had recently been reported missing.
Deputies with the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department learned that on Friday, March 30, 2012, Teresa Page attended a party at Willie Washington’s trailer. She was reported missing the next day. A friend brought Page to the party and claimed that she fell asleep at the residence and first noticed Page’s disappearance the next morning.
Initially, Washington claimed to be with his girlfriend and had no knowledge of Page’s whereabouts; however he then gave officials permission to search his property. Page was found buried in a shallow grave about 40 yards behind Washington’s trailer.
Guest stated, “Washington confessed to the murder of Page by striking her in the head with a cinder block due to an altercation over drugs. He also admitted that he then buried the body behind his residence and drove the victim’s car to Guilde Road where he burned the vehicle in an attempt to cover up Page’s death.”
Guest added, “It is heart-breaking to know that this is the result of an argument over drugs. Page was at the wrong party that night, one that ultimately took her life. ”
Guest concluded, “I am proud of the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department for the outstanding work they did during this investigation. They worked diligently to develop a suspect and to locate the body of the deceased. Their efforts allowed us to bring Washington to justice.”
