Meet District Attorney Michael Guest
District Attorney Michael Guest was sworn into office in January 2008
and represents
Madison and Rankin Counties.
As Madison and Rankin Counties grow, District Attorney Guest has already
sent a strong
message to criminals and would-be criminals that if they break our laws
they will receive
swift and strong sentences. He has shown strong prosecutorial skills in
the courtroom, where criminals have received substantial sentences.
With more than 12 years of prosecuting the most heinous crimes in Madison
and Rankin
Counties as a former Assistant District Attorney, Guest was well-prepared
to start his
new position on day one. He has built a team of outstanding professionals
who prosecute crimes, investigate crimes and work with victims of crime.
His goal is simple: to keep our neighborhoods safe places in which to live,
raise our families and worship.
As an Assistant District Attorney, Guest prosecuted hundreds of cases
and obtained guilty verdicts against criminals charged with murder, manslaughter,
armed robbery, sexual battery, aggravated assault, kidnapping, house burglary,
and drug sales.
As the director of the District Attorney’s Drug Asset Forfeiture Division, money, property, and vehicles seized from drug dealers increased from just over $100,000 in 2001 to more than 13 million dollars from 2002 through 2005.
District Attorney Guest has worked with the law enforcement community training state and local law enforcement officers. He also served as an instructor for the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department, Hinds County Sheriff’s Department, Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Academy, the Mississippi State Highway Patrol, and the Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics.
District Attorney Guest serves on the Board of Directors of the Rankin County Big Brothers and Big Sisters and as Chairman of the Central Mississippi Crime Stoppers. As a member of the Brandon Baptist Church, Guest serves as a Sunday School teacher, Church Moderator and is a former Deacon.
District Attorney Guest is a life-long Rankin County resident and a graduate
of Brandon High School. He attended Mississippi State University and received
a degree in accounting and his law degree from The University of Mississippi.
Guest is also an active member of the Rankin County Bar Association and
the Mississippi Bar Association.
Guest is married to the former Haley Kennedy and they have two sons; Kennedy and Patton.
