Canton Drug Dealer Sentenced to Serve 50 Years in Prison

Madison and Rankin Counties’ District Attorney Michael Guest announced today that Shovokie Dixon was sentenced to serve 50 years in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to Sale of Cocaine and Conspiracy to Sale Cocaine.

On April 11, 2014, officers with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department met with a confidential informant who contacted Dixon about purchasing cocaine. The confidential informant and Dixon arranged to meet at Dixon’s residence on Chinn Drive in Canton to make the transaction. The informant was outfitted with a video recorder and was given official state funds to purchase the narcotics from Dixon.

The informant went to the residence and entered Dixon’s home, where money was exchanged for cocaine. After the informant exited the home, the informant turned over the narcotics and video recording equipment to law enforcement. Deputies viewed the video that clearly showed Dixon selling cocaine to the informant. The drugs were submitted to the Mississippi State Laboratory and testing confirmed the substance purchased was cocaine.

Law Enforcement determined that Dixon had been previously convicted in Madison County for both the Sale and Possession of Cocaine.

Guest stated, “Dixon is a habitual drug offender who has been selling and possessing drugs with the intent to sell those drugs for almost 20 years. Dixon has been convicted of drug offenses on three prior occasions and after each conviction, has returned to the streets of Madison County to again deal drugs.”

Guest added, “With this arrest and conviction the Madison County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit has removed a repeat drug dealer from the streets of Canton. The 50 year sentence imposed in this case should send the message to those that sell cocaine that Sheriff’s Tucker and the Sheriff’s Department will not tolerate drug dealers in Madison County.”

Dixon has been previously convicted of Sale of Cocaine in Madison County in 1997, Possession of Cocaine with the Intent to Sell in Madison County in 2009 and Sale of Cocaine in Madison County in 2010. Dixon was on probation for Sale of Cocaine at the time of his arrest on this charge.

District Attorney Michael Guest was sworn into office in January 2008 and represents the Twentieth Judicial District, Madison and Rankin Counties. For more information regarding the District Attorney’s office, please visit www.daguest.com.
