Biography for Deputy District Attorney John Emfinger
John Emfinger is the Deputy District Attorney for Madison and Rankin Counties. John has practiced law for more than 29 years and has been a prosecutor for more than 20 years. As a Special Assistant Attorney General, John prosecuted more than 100 felony criminal matters before the Mississippi Supreme Court. As Director of the Public Integrity Division of the Attorney General’s Office, John prosecuted corrupt public officials, white collar criminals, voter fraud cases and large scale drug dealers all over the State of Mississippi and in Federal Court.
John has served the people of Madison and Rankin counties as an Assistant District Attorney for more than 11 years. He has been involved in the prosecution of thousands of felony criminal cases. His involvement has included the investigation of crimes, arrest of defendants, initial appearances, preliminary hearings, presentations to the grand jury, drafting, return and service of indictments, guilty pleas, trials, appeals and post-conviction matters. He has tried all types of cases, ranging from shoplifting to capital murder.
John earned a Bachelor of Science degee from Mississippi College in 1977, graduating with honors and distinction. He received a Masters in Business Administration degree and a Juris Doctorate from M.C. in 1981. He was admitted to the practice of law in 1981 and is a member of the Mississippi, Alabama and American Bar Associations. He is also a member of the Mississippi Prosecutors Association and a graduate of the FBI National Law Institute.
He and his wife, Susie, live in Brandon with their daughters Robin, Rachel and Regan. They are members of Crossgates Baptist Church. John has served as an officer in several civic, educational and youth sports organizations over the years. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the South Madison County Soccer Organization and the Chicago Fire Juniors of Mississippi.
